20th Century Austrian Art Nouveau Vintage Brass Coat Stand, Rack by Adolf Loos

An early 20th Century, vintage Austrian Art Nouveau coat rack made of hand crafted brass designed by Adolf Loos, in good condition. The clothing stand is composed with eight large hooks and four small hat hooks, the lower part is detailed with four umbrella holders, resting on a heavy, square metal base. Minor fading, due to age. Circa 1913, Austria.

Adolf Franz Karl Viktor Maia Loos, better know as Adolf Loos was an Austrian, Czechoslovak architect, writer and innovator of modern architecture, born in 1879, in Brno, Austria-Hungary and passed away in Vienna, Austria. He was born into a family of sculptors and stonemason. Loos started his studies at the Stiftsgymnasium Melk, in Austria, but stayed only for a few months, as he failed an exam. Over the next years he studied at a few places, such as the Royal and Imperial State Technical College in Liberec, Czech Republic and at the State Crafts School in Brno. From 1890 - 1893, he studied at the Dresden University of Technology. In the end, Loos dit not receive any academic degree. He influenced and inspired many architects and designers, and the early moment of Modernism.
