20th Century Danish Vintage Beech Clam Chair by Arnold Madsen & Schubell

A single, vintage Mid-Century modern Danish "Clam" chair made of hand crafted Beechwood designed by Arnold Madsen for Madsen & Schubell, in good condition. The Scandinavian armchair has a slightly inclined button-tufted backrest detailed with curved armrests, standing on four curved wooden legs. Newly upholstered in a light-brown velvet from Lelievre Paris. Wear consistent with age and use. Dated 1944, Copenhagen, Denmark, Scandinavia.

Arnold Madsen was a Danish furniture designer born in 1907, in North Juland, a small town in Denmark and passed away in 1989. He trained in Copenhagen to become a furniture upholsterer where later on, in 1941, Madsen open his first workshop in 1945, he founded Madsen & Schubell together with Henry Schubell. They both were designing and producing furniture until 1965. In 1944, he created the Clam Chair.

Henry Hans Schubesll was a Danish furniture designer born in 1906, in Elsinore, Denmark. After school, he finished his apprenticeship as a carpenter. Before he opened his own workshop Madsen & Schubell with Arnold Madsen, he was working until 1945 as a foreman at the furniture carpenters Vinter & Vinding.
