Dimitri Omersa was born in Yugoslavia. He came to England in 1955 where he found work in the leather trade. When he took over the small leather company from its retiring owner, he expanded the line of leather pig footstools to elephants, donkeys, and rhinoceros. The animals were stocked by Abercrombie and Fitch during the 1960s-80s. The range of leather footstools has expanded to 37 animals.
