A vintage French Industrial workshop chair made of hand crafted brushed, waxed metal designed by Paul-Henry Nicolle for NICOLLE, in good condition. The Chaise d’Atelier, carpenter side chair has an arched backrest which is in a shape of a whale, composed with an adjustable seat height, standing on four sculptural legs, supported by crossing beams. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1930 - 1940, Paris, France.

NICOLLE is a French design company founded in 1913, near Paris, France by Paul-Henry Nicolle. The company specializes in manufacturing functional and comfortable work stools. In 1933, NICOLLE decided to distribute his fabric seat production to neighboring factories and throughout France. The design of the backrest of his work chairs are known as the “Whale Tail Design”.
Paul-Henry Nicolle was a French designer born and passed away in Paris, France. He founded in 1913, in Paris the NICOLLE company. Nicolle’s personal life and professional training remains lost in history.
