An oval, vintage Mid-Century modern American dining room table made of hand crafted Carrara marble designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll, in good condition. The top of the detailed conference or center table is supported by an enameled Aluminum foot which imitates a Tulip. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1950 - 1960, United States.
Eero Saarinen was a Finnish-American architect and industrial designer born in 1910, in Kirkkonummi, south Finland and passed away in 1961, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1923, his parents and him migrated to the United States, where he started to take classes at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, in Michigan. During this time, he became good friends with fellow students, Charles and Ray Eames and with the architect Florence Knoll. In 1929, Saarinen moved to Paris, France to study to become a sculptor at the The Académie de la Grande Chaumière, but finished his studies in 1934 at the Yale School of Architecture.
Knoll is an an American manufacturer founded in 1938, in New York City, Untied States by the German-American Hans Knoll and his wife Florence Knoll. Many well-known designers and architects have worked and designed for them, such as Franco Albini, Tovia Scarpa, Hans Wegner, etc.
