20th Century French Art Deco Mahogany, Ebony Credenza by Jules Leleu

A vintage Art Deco French medium sized credenza with a flip-top and drop-front ensconcing compartment, made of hand crafted veneered polished Mahogany, Rosewood and Ebony designed by Jules Leleu in good condition. The Parisian buffet is composed on each side with one large and two smaller door in the center. Each of them contains a shelf. The larger ones are detailed with two half-round, moon shaped clear glass shelves. The front side of the cabinet is particularized by mother-of-pearl and pewter, supported by a rectangular wooden base, resting on four arched feet. The top flip-top drawer is detailed with its original gilt bronze door pulls, the inside is detailed with the original mirrored glass. Manufacturer label is inside, signed J. Leleu. Model Nr. 22461. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1940 - 1950, Paris, France.

Jules Leleu was a French furniture designer and artist, born in 1883 in Boulogne-sur-Mer, northern France and passed away in 1961. Leleu started to study painting, to follow is his dad passion in art. After the Word War I, he focused in creating, designing furniture. In 1924, Leleu opened his own gallery in Paris. Later on, he participated at the Exposition Industrielle et Arts Decoratifs, where he won the grand prize.
