20th Century Italian Brutalist Pair of Copper Wall Sconces by Marcello Fantoni

A sculptural, vintage Mid-Century modern Italian pair of wall sconces made of hand crafted copper designed by Marcello Fantoni, in good condition. The brutalist appliques are embellished by different lengths of tubes. The interior of the wall lights, lamps are particularized with hand blown colored Murano glass pieces. Each of them features a two light socket. Engraved FBR on the backside. The wires have been renewed. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1950 - 1960, Italy.

Marcello Fantoni was an Italian designer and producer born in 1915, in Florence, Italy and passed away in 2011. In 1927, Fantoni started his apprentice at the Institute of Art at Porta Romana, and received his masters in 1934. Fantoni opened soon his own ceramic studio, where he designed and produced unique pieces. His works were displayed in private collections and in the most important museum of the world. In 1970, he founded the International School of Ceramic Arts in Florence, Italy.
