20th Century Italian Driade Pair of Jansky Walnut Side Chairs by Borek Sipek

A vintage late Mid-Century modern Italian pair of Jansky side chairs made of hand crafted Walnut, designed by Borek Sipek and produced by Driade, in good condition. The sculpture end chairs have a round arched backrest, standing on four straight wooden legs. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1970 - 1980, Italy.

Bořek Šípek was Czech furniture and glass designer, artist born in 1949, in Prague, Czech Republic and passed away in 2016. At the age of fifteen, was parentless and was raised by the well-know glass artist René Roubíček who thought him the glass blowing technique, which lastly led to a successful career in the field. Šípek started to study furniture construction in Prague, which he finished in Germany, due to the Soviet invasion of the Czechoslovakia. In 1974, he graduated from the Applied Arts in Hamburg, where he studied architecture. Later on, in 1983, in Amsterdam, he opened his own architecture and design studio, Aletrego. In the 80's, Šípek started working with the Italian brand Driade.

Driade is an Italian high-end furniture manufacturer, founded in 1968, in Corsico, a comune in the Province of Milan, Italy by Enrico Astori and his wife Adelaide Acerbi.
