20th Century Pair of French Vintage Art Deco Oakwood Armchairs by André Arbus

A vintage French Art Deco pair of armchairs made of hand crafted shellac polished Oakwood, designed and produced by André Arbus in good condition. The detailed dining room chairs have a slightly inclined, padded backrest with slim outstretched armrests, each of them are particularized by two egg shaped décor pieces, standing on four slanted wooden legs. Newly upholstered in a light-green velvet, embellished with small tulips from Lelievre Paris. Restored, refurbished and hand polished. Wear consistent with age an use. Circa 1930 - 1940, France.

André Arbus was a French designer, sculptor and architect born in 1903, in Toulouse, France and passed away in 1969. Arbus was educated at the Lycee Pierre de Fermat and graduated at the school Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He took over the family business when his father retired. Shortly after, he transformed the family business and refrained from the sale of reproductions and started to focus on quality, comfort and a distinctive French aesthetic. Arbus is remembered as one of the finest furniture makers of the early 20th and Mid-Century.
