20th Century Swedish Birchwood Writing Agency - Chest Attributed to Axel Larsson

A vintage Swedish Art Deco secretary made of hand crafted polished, partly veneered Birchwood, designed most likely by Axel Larsson in good condition. The Scandinavian cupboard, cabinet is composed with a writing a flap and two large and one small drawer, standing on four short wooden feet. The inside of the chest contains two small storage spaces, compartments and shelves, enhanced by detailed black ebony handles, consisting its original brass hardware and key. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1920 - 1930, Sweden, Scandinavia.

Axel Larsson was a Swedish interior architect and a furniture designer born in 1898, in Medelpad, Sweden and passed away in 1975, in Sweden. Larsson studied at the Hoegre Konstindustriell Skolan in Sweden and was mentored by the Swedish designer Carl Malmsten during the Stockholm City Hall project. Larsson worked for over thirty years with the Swedish manufacturer company Svenska Möbelfabrikerna Bodafors (SMF). In 1956, he opened his own firm but continued to collaborate with his former employer, which continues to produce Larsson's stackable Chair S-312 today.
